Final Words:

Overall Bangladesh’s leather sector is deeming competitive because of three important issues. First of all, the low labor cost differentiation, then the local availability of hides and a favorable business environment. And this is working by the existence of organizations and institutional arrangements like the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) etc. and duty-free access to major international markets.

At the same time, relocating the tannery industry in Savar Tannery Estate to ensuring environmental compliance, the leather sector will be able to increase exports to markets such as the European Union and the United States and will attract significantly more foreign investment into the leather industry in Bangladesh. Furthermore, the use of the environmentally compliant output from the Savar will lead to greater value addition in the Bangladesh economy.

Then it will encourage graduation of the industry to finished leather goods and footwear.  At present, we earn about US$ 1.23 billion by exporting various leather products in FY2016-2017. According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data, Bangladesh earned $1.01 billion exporting leather, leather goods and leather footwear, the only billion-dollar export earner after the apparel goods, in the fiscal year 2018-19.
